Volunteer

10671352_728215907226795_514102430443279294_n-1With only two coordinators, pretty much everything we do and everything we accomplish is owed to our awesome group of volunteers.

If you would like to help out, make change happen, help us transform our service, challenge the food system, or just make friends then e-mail foodcentre@utmsu.ca .  Please keep in mind that you will have to attend a volunteer orientation/ training before getting any work done. We also ask you to sign our volunteer agreement. We promise it is fun, you’ll make great friends, learn a lot and you can definitely put it on a resumé.

There are so many different positions available throughout the year, whether r61274_579671868747867_1926117124_negular positions if you want to get a lot of hours and make sure that the shift is reserved for you, or one time sign up positions if you don’t want to put a time commitment.

Positions:

  • Office hours: Our office is only open for 16 hours a week. So we need you to make our office more accessible. All you will have to do is attend an anti-oppression training. Then you will be required to be present at our office for a regular schedule at least 3 hours a week. You may do your homework, watch movies or do whatever. So long as you serve any members who come in and uphold our agreement.
  • Leadership (marketing, outreach, event planning, program planning and office management, research): coming soon!
  • Stock and shopping:
Since we only have two staff members, who are mere mortals. We could always use extra hands in managing stock. You may be asked to help our staff organizing the storage and transporting things in and out of the storage. Or you may be asked to help our staff in shopping at the grocery store because splitting up shopping lists makes everything go faster.
  • Outreach team:
Many students need our service but haven’t even heard about it due to our poor outreach. Now that we finally have a website and outreach materials, we can start spreading the word about our centre and we need your help. All you will have to do is make class announcements, e-mail professors or do some tabling (distributing flyers and answering question). We may also need some of your artsy ones from time to time to help us make posters and cool stuff to advertise!
  • Gardening: We will be holding at least one meeting to introduce you all to one another and to give you the basic information that you will need. We will have a seed starting session, where we will be planting seeds indoor to get them ready for the spring season. Then we will likely start gardening at the end of March.
  • Blogging:
Yes, blogging! Our new website will contain a blog where students can share their thoughts, research, experiences, ideas, art, and pretty much anything! We will need monitors, regular writers and students to promote our blog by asking others for submission and finally we are looking for students who wish to make submissions.
